Of all the ways we are experiencing this pandemic, one possibility is finding ourselves with a new or strengthened resolve to prioritise our wellness - physically, emotionally and mentally.

An understanding of the interconnectedness of our bodies, minds and spirits, and of the tools we have to cultivate health and prevent or mitigate illness, is at the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and of our Healing Nutrition curriculum at AHN.

For some of us, this is the first time we have considered the impact upon our health of our habitual food choices. Now is just the beginning 🌱 #AcademyHealingNutrition #longevitydiet #TCM #ayurveda

Nature’s perpetual cycles demonstrate that seasons of contraction give rise to those of expansion, that night gives way to day, that the seeming desolation of winter transforms into the opportunity for re-creation in the spring.

We can embody this understanding as we dream up what we want to grow in this new world to come, what seeds of change we wish to plant, to use a familiar phrase. How do we want to be in relationship to each other, going forwards? Can we re-imagine systems that genuinely prioritize the well-being and dignity of all of us, and acknowledge our interconnectedness and responsibilities towards each other, and the earth?

What latent, creative solutions and powers are within us, awaiting awakening? 🧚🏻‍♂️🧘‍♀️🌱 #AcademyHealingNutrition #LongevityDiet #TCM #Ayurveda

Tending to the Liver: we are cleansing our physical and emotional selves.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the smooth flow of energy, or Qi, that our creative force depends upon, is regulated by our liver. The liver also has an affinity, in TCM, with the green, upward, and outward movement of a sprout or sapling. Spring, therefore, is the time of year where we focus on refreshing the health of this vital organ system.

Physically, be gentle to your Liver now, consider it like a tender green shoot that must be protected. It is wise to avoid the stressors of fried, or overly rich or spicy foods, to minimize stimulants like caffeine and alcohol - to ease what the Liver must process.

Instead, spring greens - dandelion, watercress, chard, lettuces, sprouts, and arugula - will help purify the Liver-Gallbladder. Radishes reduce phlegm and improve circulation; leeks and green onions cleanse the blood. It is a bit too soon for full-on cleansing or fasting in unstable weather and circumstances. However, it is acceptable to start incorporating some of these fresh, raw foods, if available to you, especially in the same meal as a bowl of soothing miso soup.

Finally, it is the taste of sour foods that nourishes the Liver-Gallbladder system. Lemon juice or apple cider vinegar with warm water in the morning is especially useful for keeping things moving. 🧚🏻‍♂️🧘‍♀️🌱 #AcademyHealingNutrition #longevitydiet #TCM #ayurveda

Lets talk about Breakfast: the incredibly important first meal of the day.

A typical approach to breakfast, for many of us, has us quickly eating something cold and primarily sugary, a habit that depletes our digestion and allows excessive dampness, or stagnation of fluids, within us, a fertile ground for dis-ease.

Our program offers education on more nourishing ways to begin the day! One of our recipes for Oat Porridge will be posted soon, stay tuned 😉 🌱 #AcademyHealingNutrition #LongevityDiet #TCM #Ayurveda

Tonic herbs, mushrooms, and superfoods have been used for thousands of years in Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine to increase vitality, strengthen bodily systems and organs, nurture the spirit, and enhance longevity.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, radiant health is our ability to adapt appropriately and effectively to all the challenges and changes of life.

Tonic herbs, which often provide more antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals than most foods, nourish this adaptive energy, this resilience.

They are not used to treat specific illnesses; on the contrary, we should abstain from tonic herbs while ill. Instead, they fortify our overall well-being - physically, emotionally, and spiritually - by working upon what TCM recognizes as the Three Treasures.

The Three Treasures describe the total energies within us.

They are known as:
~Jing (our inherited constitution or life force, our essence).
~Qi (our day-to-day vitality and protective energy that determines how well we adapt to the world around us). ~Shen (our spirit, the spark of divinity that resides in our heart and opens us to the joy of life). 🧚🏻‍♂️🧘‍♀️🌱 #AcademyHealingNutrition #LongevityDiet #TCM #Ayurveda

Telomeres are the part of our chromosomes that protect them from deterioration and the effects of aging. Recently, scientists have discovered that the telomerase enzyme can be activated to lengthen and repair our telomeres.

In this intimate meeting with Academy Healing Nutrition director Roger Green, and Rocket Scientist CEO Rex Hodge, we'll take an in-depth look at how the body ages and becomes prone to degenerative diseases, and learn why the anti-aging and medical communities are excited by this potential to reverse the aging process.

Find out how to live well into your 100’s and still be physically, mentally and spiritually active.

In recent times the discovery that the telomerase enzyme can lengthen telomeres has caused a great buzz in the anti-aging and medical fraternity. Telomerase is the enzyme used within the body to help repair telomeres and when activated can help repair and lengthen them. Why is this potential so exciting?

The length of a person’s telomeres is a good indicator of his or her overall health status; short telomeres have been associated with cellular aging and dysfunction.

In this special meeting, you will discover:
The number one ingredient that repairs and lengthens your telomeres.
How the body ages and becomes prone to degenerative diseases and immune senescence.

The mechanism to start to reverse the aging process.
Every time a cell divides into two cells the DNA is copied for the new cell. This copying process has a flaw in that because of the way the copying equipment holds on to the DNA strand it cannot copy several sets of DNA letters or nucleotides at the very end of the DNA strand. This would result in genetic code being lost with each cell division. To prevent this a long series of nonsense letters are put on the end of the DNA in order to be sacrificed. These nonsense letters are called the telomeres. They do their function of sacrificing themselves each cell division until they run out after around 70 cell divisions. This is when a cell hits the Hayflick limit.

This is a part of what aging is. And it prevents us from fully regenerating from a wound or from an illness if we locally run out of telomeres in our cell population. Because then cells cannot divide and replace themselves.

This would be a big problem for new generations if there were not a way to replace these telomeres. But there is: the telomerase enzyme. It builds back up the telomeres on the ends of the DNA strand. This is what allows an embryo to grow into a full adult person. But between infancy and our teenage years the production of the telomerase enzyme is shut down. Fortunately the cycloastragenol molecule can activate the production of the telomerase enzyme in our cells. And cycloastragenol is found in the astragalus root. It is a modifed version of the Astragaloside IV molecule.

A significant number of tests have been conducted worldwide using cycloastragenol on groups of cells and on mice. All of these have found this molecule to be safe and effective at producing the telomerase enzyme and lengthening telomeres and in extending the Hayflick limit.
